Julia Kozak was born in Richmond, British Columbia and spent her youth growing up in the Fraser Valley and the B.C. Gulf Islands and is a band member of the Nisga'a Nation, located in the Nass Valley of the Northwest Coast of British Columbia.

Julia has always been a "nature girl", enjoying being in the outdoors by hiking, camping, fishing and gardening.

Being raised in the midst of the inspiring natural surroundings (and at times having very close encounters with local wildlife!) helped to motivate her when forming her ideas and creating her pieces.

As an artist who pays close attention to tradition, Julia's sketchbooks are filled with designs that are brought to life when she paints.

She constantly likes to challenge herself by experimenting with colours, linear designs and different shapes.

Julia Kozak's artwork has been described as "uplifting" and "whimsical"

Favouring the bold colours from her Nisga'a heritage, Julia incorporates traditional imagery and symbols combined with her own insights and techniques to form flowing lines

and gentle curves which give her paintings movement.

Coming from a nation of storytellers,
Julia strives to continue their legacy through her paintings.

Each piece has a story and her imagery invites the viewer to participate in the narrative.

Julia has often been commissioned to create pieces and her works are currently displayed in private
collections across Canada and internationally.
