Julia Kozak

Julia Kozak is a member of the Nisga'a Nation, located on the Northwest Coast of British Columbia.

Born and raised in Vancouver and the Lower Mainland of British Columbia, Julia now resides in Ontario which has given her the opportunity to experience and learn about many of the Indigenous cultures from between the West Coast to the East Coast.

According to the Traditions of the Nisga'a people, learning is a way of life. Teaching and laws regarding traditions have been passed down from generation to generation since time immemorial through to today.

Julia Kozak honours these traditions and is enthusiastic in sharing with others about the unique stories and histories of the Nisga'a and the people of the "Wild Northwest Coast".

Along with sharing teachings, Julia is a visual artist, expressing her cultural background through painting and textile arts. Her works share stories and traditions and have been called 'inspiring' and 'whimsical'.

In addition to artwork, Julia continues to explore the reclamation of her First Nations heritage through Pow Wow dancing, sharing Northwest Coast traditional dances as well as the more contemporary Fancy Shawl.
